Pronghorn Moon Local Council Interfaith Report 1999-2000

from Kathe Walters, EPS
21 July 2000

With the excellent guidance of Don Frew and Deborah Ann Light, I ventured into my local Interfaith community in October 1999, and am an active member of the Antelope Valley Interfaith Council. My participation in Interfaith activities has included:

Attending the Long Beach NCCJ Conference

Submitting "A Wiccan Prayer for Tolerance" to the World Tibet Day Interfaith Call for Freedom of Worship in Tibet and Universal Religious Freedom, which is up on that website

Hosting an Interfaith 72-Hours candle and prayer vigil with Clergy of other faiths

Hosting a 72-Hours ritual for peace and religious tolerance, attended by Clergy of other faiths

Spear-heading the formation of a Hate Crimes Response taskfoce, the purpose of which is to mobilize the faith communities in the Antelope Valley when there are religiously-motivated hate crimes; to clean up graffiti, repair damage done to houses of worship; to involve local media in spreading our message of zero tolerance for hate crimes; to involve city government officials in this effort.

Amending the AVIC goals to include "culturally diverse" to the year 2000 Intentions, so that it reads "Expand our group by encouraging attendance and inviting additional spiritually and culturally diverse religious leaders to join us".

Participating in an Interfaith Day of Prayer service, where I presented the Native American and Craft views on acceptance of others and a prayer for tolerance

Participating in the authorship of a letter from the AVIC denouncing the treatment of Muslims in popular media as being intolerant, over-reactive and violent.

Having an article on Interfaith work published on Witchvox

Presenting a talk on "What is Wicca?" to the local Reform Temple

Presenting the first of two talks on "What is Wicca?" to the Antelope Valley Interfaith Council

Along with other members of PMLC, NCLC and SCLC, I attended the memorial service of Dr. Ratanasara, a leading light in Los Angeles Interfaith communities.

Delivering the invocation at the Lancaster City Council meeting on July 11th

Being asked, with Deborah Ann Light, to write a ritual for inclusion on the Interfaith Call for Freedom of Worship in Tibet and Universal Religious Freedom website, scheduled for Sept. 2000

Registering to attend NAINConnect2000 at Cal-State Fullerton in July 2000
