The Covenant of the Goddess and the Interfaith Movement

Introduction

"Interfaith" is a complex word. It has a variety of uses, meanings and connotations. It is global, regional, local and personal in its scope. It is a philosophy, an idea, and an evolving social movement.

There are global interfaith organizations, such as the United Religions Initiative and the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions. There are regional organizations, such as the North American Interfaith Network. And there are local organizations such as "Cooperation Circles" and community councils. But these organizations and their activities rely upon personal relationships. After all, tolerance and understanding cannot be mandated. Such values can only be developed individually, as a matter of personal conviction.

In any context, interfaith activities are based upon shared threads of understanding. Among those is the affirmation of religious freedom, the appreciation and celebration of diversity, and the belief that through interfaith dialogue, understanding replaces prejudice. Through interfaith action, the world can become a better place for everyone.

COG is proud to support positive interfaith relationships. Our representatives are members of various interfaith organizations and they are actively engaged in many exciting and innovative activities. They are volunteers who serve as a matter of personal conviction. Each representative works at her or his own direction, according to personal opportunities, resources and interests. These volunteer representatives comprise the membership of our Interfaith Committee, and rely primarily upon personal finances to fund their activities. A secondary source of financing is COG's Interfaith Fund, which is financed completely by charitable donations. Through charitable donations to the IF Fund, other individuals are enabled to support the ongoing involvement of witches in the growing interfaith movement.
