The 2005 Wiccan/Pagan Poll
She Changes Everything She Touches, Everything She Touches Changes! Witches and Pagans are still struggling for parity and respect. Alas, we are seen as a rather odd minority, somehow unworthy of the rights, privileges and protections accorded others in the United States by our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Many of us have friends and/or family members serving the United States in Iraq and other foreign lands. The National Cemetery Administration has received numerous petitions from individuals and organizations (including the Covenant) over the past 10 years. Yes, approvals have been granted to requests for a number of symbols—but the pentacle was not among them. Sadly, Witches and Pagans serving in the military are still denied the right to have a symbol of their religion—if that symbol is a pentacle—placed on their grave marker. The Covenant of the Goddess, as a religious organization, may not take an active political role; however, we can ensure that people are educated and informed, and that we have a respected place among political and religious leaders worldwide. Much has been accomplished on the religious front by dedicated Covenant members involved in local and international interfaith efforts. In order to aid the greater Wiccan/Pagan community in its efforts to improve the fragile foothold we have within the broader political (and sometimes religious) community, the Covenant is conducting an updated, online Wiccan/Pagan Poll. Your willingness to stand up and be counted and your encouragement of others to do so is paramount to the success of this endeavor. In Service to the Gods, Kathryn Fuller
